This project, given in my Interface Design class, was to observe the current Birdwell Beach Britches e-commerce web site, determine strengths and weaknesses to the page layout, and to create a new design that helps to better achieve the company's goals.
The original site is one single page long with only a few low-resolution
images of the available products. The text is all default black serif
text in Times New Roman. There is no online ordering, and finding specific
information on the site is time-consuming at best. On the positive side,
the site does offer quite a lot of information for those willing to dig
for it, and they also has an excellent selling point in that their company
has a long history of selling swimming trunks of a particular material
and design dating back to the seventies, and that their products are very
much considered nostalgia pieces as well as functional swimming trunks.
With these elements in mind, I redesigned the site reminiscent of seventies-style graphical arrows and lines. I adapted a retro color palette, using a creamy yellow color, a vibrant dark red, and a lime/olive green. I used the concept of the graphical arrow in my navigation; having it point to whichever section the user is currently viewing. I also utilized the company's mascot in my design, in an attempt to develop a brand.
