This illustration is part of an art collaboration with Jonathan Newbury, a English and History student at Oxford University. I began with a very sharp looking piece of line art he had made, and created a digital painting in Photoshop of the characters in the drawing. The background is an edit of part of a photograph I took of a nearby forest scene. Primarily, this painting was an exercise in life painting, chiaroscuro shading, and color blending.
